This project is located along Florida’s Gulf coast, south of Tampa. The western most part of Tampa Harbor entrance channel is located approximately 3 miles offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.  The channel continues north of Egmont Key and underneath the Sunshine Skyway bridge approximately 5 miles into Tampa Bay. At the time of our work, the western part of Tampa Harbor entrance channel required maintenance dredging with potential beach or nearshore placement of the dredged material.  MAE’s work included performing vibracore borings to assess the sediment characteristics of the shoaled material. UASCE Staff chose samples for laboratory testing including visual soil classifications, sieve analysis, visual percent shell, and non-ASTM carbonate content with re-sieve.
