Join us in celebrating Women's Equality Day on August 26th! This day commemorates the certification of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote. It's a powerful reminder of the long struggle for women's suffrage and the ongoing fight for equality in all aspects of life. Let's honor the trailblazers who fought for our rights and continue to advocate for a world where everyone has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of gender. #WomensEqualityDay #EqualityForAll #Vote #EmpowerWomen #WomensRights

Major news for Jacksonville's Flagler Center!
Citigroup ‘modernizing’ in $19 million Flagler Center upgrade

Citigroup is investing an estimated $19 million to renovate its office space. The project will transform 250,000 square feet, creating a modern, open workspace with a focus on sustainability and employee wellness.

This comes after Citi's decision to sell its campus in a sale-leaseback deal, allowing it to continue its operations with its 4,000 employees while adapting to hybrid work schedules. The company has been a key part of Jacksonville's business community for nearly 30 years and plans for continued growth.

Geotechnical Engineers Work on Everything from Skyscrapers to Spaceports!

The field isn’t just about buildings and roads. Geotechnical engineers are involved in:

Designing foundations for offshore wind farms
Preparing launch pads for space missions
Building tunnels, dams, mines, and even underground cities
🚀 Bonus Fact: NASA studies the mechanics of lunar and Martian soils — a form of “exo-geotechnical engineering” — for future space habitats.
Florida's new $15.1 billion transportation budget for fiscal year 2025-26, supported by FDOT, allocates $13.7 billion for infrastructure projects. These include significant investments in highway construction ($5.4B), resurfacing ($1.5B), bridge work ($961.2M), and other areas like rail, aviation, seaports, and trails. The budget also funds safety initiatives and local grants.

Additionally, Senate Bill 1662 introduces policy changes to prepare Florida for future transportation needs. Key provisions include:

1. Establishing the Florida Transportation Research Institute (led by UCF)
2. Creating a Transportation Academy for workforce training
3. Developing new funding for spaceport infrastructure and protecting space- designated land at seaports
4. Creating a state plan for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM)
5. Authorizing the construction of vertiports for AAM testing

TODAY'S QUESTION: What engineering theory strives to get “the right people” together at “the right time” to collaborate on ways to solve design problems by having all the “moving parts” (so to speak) work on design at the same time?
Huge congrats to Keith Bell and his family on the arrival of their brand-new grand baby! So much joy heading your way. ❤️ Maybe a future MAE engineer!
