Geotechnical services were provided for the City of Palm Coast to explore the subsurface conditions at various sites within the City’s existing stormwater swale areas that were draining poorly due to lack of infiltration. MAE’s field explorations included auger borings within the swales and obtaining soil samples for laboratory classification and index property tests. Our geotechnical engineering report included estimated seasonal high groundwater levels and recommendations for swale remediation.
Vertical drains were installed at various sites to improve the drainage of the existing swales. Each drain was installed using a hollow stem auger. Boreholes were drilled to various depths and the annular space inside the hollow stem auger was filled with 3/8-inch gravel from the bottom of the borehole to the ground surface. Additional gravel was installed as the auger was withdrawn from the borehole.
